United States and World Financial Crisis

January 08, 2009 By: enigma Category: Business and Trade, Employment, World Economy No Comments →

The financial crisis in the form of sub-prime crisis which started in United states has now engulfed the whole world. Countries like China and India who command natural development growth is also started getting affected due to loss in export orders and service export orders.

United states has been creating world demand as it has been spending more than what it has been producing. Over the last two centuries there has been growth in demand and the supply has been from the developing countries.

Now the question is as there is a collapse of the wall street and subsequent effect in the many sectors of the economy like automobile, housing in terms of unemployment, excess production  etc what are the steps that is being done by the US government to take the economy back to growth?

The new government of United States under the leadership of Obama is going to come into effect from 20th January and there are number of issues to be handled from economics to international problems.

If the United States gives more bailout packages, then, which sectors are going to get the maximum benefit and how is it going to affect the unemployment and real economic output growth with in USA? Is there any change in the outsourcing policy ? Is there going to be more protectionist tendencies in United States?

Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans

August 21, 2008 By: sweta Category: Mapping, North America No Comments →

Back last summer, on Fred’s persuasion, I finally made my first trip to New Orleans. Located in the southeastern portion of Louisiana, it is a major port city of United States of America. To its north lies the Lake Pontchartrain and to the east, lies Lake Borgne. Known to be one of the oldest cities in the US, it is named after Philippe II, Duc d’ Orleans. I was particularly eager to join in the annual Mardi Gras annual celebrations. Fred had this on mind long ago I knew it. Yet another photographic adventure to him I thought.

I sipped onto the coffee as Fred lay beside me doozing. The airlines food always made him feel sleepy he says always. As I browsed through my travel brochure, I came across a few interesting facts about Mardi Gras and its origin. I found that early French settlers had brought Mardi Gras into the state of Louisiana. The day is celebrated with processions and jubilation across the streets. Celebrated a day prior to Ash Wednesday,  Mardi Gras is celebrated in many places around the country such as Colombia, France, Guatemala, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Panama. Interesting times lay ahead, I thought, as I looked out of the window to see the picturesque land below. We would arrive in 15 to 20 minutes.

While going through the website of Lonely Planet, I came to know a lot about the Indiana Dunes. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in USA comprises of the sandy beaches and dunes developed from Lake Michigan’s prevailing winds. The admission to this lakeshore is free except the West Beach. If you want to visit this beach you will have to pay around $6 per car.

Near the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, you will also find large areas of woods and wetlands which is the major attraction of this place. All these places have become major wildlife habitats renowned all over the world. This region is also the breeding grounds for different varieties of plant life. You will find different types of plants ranging from cacti to hardwood forests. There are pine trees as well here.

During the winter, the lake winds blow near the region. If you visit this place during the winters, you will be able to hear the low buzz of the ’singing sands’. It is amazing to hear this sound – a sound which will you will hear no where else. It is also paradise for adventure lovers as it offers hiking, biking, birding and swimming facilities.
