August 13, 2008 By: sukanyapaul Category: Asia, Travel No Comments →

Planning to visit a Central Asian country? Visit Kyrgyzstan which is known for its breathtaking landscape - mountains, glaciers and lakes. Moreover the country is visited by very few travelers as a result of which it place has maintained its virginity. Adventure sport lovers will definitely love this place as there is lots of opportunity for trekking, climbing, sailing, skiing and swimming.

Some of the major cities which I will recommend you to visit are Jalal-Abad, Bishkek, Karakol, Osh and Naryn. The popular destinations that you should not forget to visit are Lake Issyk Kul, Ala Archa National Park, Lake Song Kul, Tash Rabat and the Burana Tower. The Tien Shan Range is another attraction which is known for its tall peaks and glaciers. Jengish Chokusu is the highest peak of the range.

Transportation facilities are quite good. There are daily flights from Moscow to Kyrgyzstan by Aeroflot. BMI also operates three flights a week from London. Turkish Airlines operates two flights from Istanbul. So you see reaching Kyrgyzstan is not at all a tough job! However driving is not safe at Kyrgyzstan according to western standards.

I found a number of travel agencies arranging for adventure and trekking tours. Do not miss these types of tours. These will help you to know Kyrgyzstan in a better way. So what are you waiting for? Just go to Kyrgyzstan and enjoy this beautiful land!

Boom in Indonesia Travel Industry

August 12, 2008 By: river Category: Asia, Travel No Comments →

There has been a boom in the tourism sector in Indonesia. The first half of 2008 has seen a rise in the number of foreigner visitors in the country. Statistics show, that the number of foreigner visitors to Indonesia has increased by almost 12% compared to the first half of last year.

In last few years, Indonesia tourism department suffered due to a number of natural calamities like tsunamis and earthquakes. Bird flu outbreak and a number of terrorist attacks had also hampered the tourism industry of Indonesia.

But this year, tourists have been traveling to Indonesia in great numbers. Only in June, this country of Asia has been visited by around 529,100 visitors, which is about 6% more than the number of tourists visiting in last June.

The government’s decision of extending the list of counties, which can receive visas-on-arrival, has proved to be right, as the number of foreign visitors have increased drastically. The country is again considered to be a safe place for tourists. I am going to plan a visit to Indonesia very soon. Will you be there also? Do you want to travel to Indonesia? Then go through an Indonesia travel guide and prepare a list of places you would like to visit. See you in Indonesia!!!

Visiting Cyprus: The Isle of Aphrodite

August 11, 2008 By: enigma Category: Asia, Europe, Sightseeing, Travel No Comments →

Last year, myself and Nikhil decided to set off on a Mediterranean holiday. We chose Cyprus Islands, which is the third largest in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia. Cyprus is situated close to the south of Turkey. Our Cyprus tour was planned for the winter. We had boarded a flight with Cyprus Airways. It connects most of the towns and cities of Europe. Cheap flights to Cyprus are also available with this airlines.

Cyprus, the sun-kissed isle, is a wonderful holiday resort. We were struck by the beauty of the pine dotted mountains, the pristine beaches with sand like gleaming gold, the archaeological sites and monuments that bear witness to the bygone era and most of all the sparkling turquoise blue sea.  Nicosia, the capital, divided by the ‘green line’ border and Paphos, which has been declared as a World Cultural Heritage Site by the UNESCO, are eloquent in their grandeur and cultural heritage. We visited the Hamam Omerye, Augustinian Church of St. Mary, Paphos Archaeological Park, Quiet Valleys,The Rock of Aphrodite, The Seven St. Georges, Kykkos Monastery and the Famagusta.

The gorgeous sea beaches of Protaras and Ayia Napa and the beautiful Troodos Mountains with Mount  Olympus visible at its peak are must visit places for a relaxing sojourn. The cafeterias dotting the beach front of Larnaca and those at Nicosia and Limassol are simply awesome. You must also try out the mouth watering Cypriot cuisine.

Getting around Cyprus is no big hassle. There are lots of taxis, cars and buses that provide easy  transfer from one place to another. The Cyprus hotels, villas and apartments provide excellent lodging options. Our stay at the Forest Park Mountain Hotel was a pleasant one. The Cyprus budget hotels also offer comfort and shelter at an affordable rate. An important word for shoppers: Cyprus is famous for lace work, jewelery and leather goods.

The tranquil ambiance exuded by the islands and the warm camaraderie of the people lingers in the memory long after the visit. The Cyprus, is truly the ‘Emerald of the Mediterranean.’

Asia…here i come!

August 05, 2008 By: sweta Category: Asia No Comments →

What could be more charming than a month’s vacation to Asia? I mean, thats what me and Fred kept arguing about. He was more interested to make it to the Bahamas, and spend his long earned vacation in the sunny beaches. But this time I was gonna win. I was adamant on the fact that I would visit Asia no matter what the odds were. I was particularly interested in visiting India. The country really caught my imagination. Apart from that there were so many interesting countries to be visited in Asia. Hailing as the largest continent of the world, I knew time would run out before I could fruitfully visit a single country and explore it completely.

Housing the world’s largest population, I knew I would be in a lot of surprises in terms of the various races and ethnic cultures I would come across. Pulling out my travel map I made a detailed study of the continent. Originating from a single landmass ‘Eurasia’, the continent is bounded by the Indian, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. On western portion of the continent, lies Europe. It also shares its borders with the Caucasus and Ural mountains. A few brisk phone calls followed. My travel agent Michelle informed me that the tourist season was on, and already flight bookings were at its peak. But she assured me that she would definitely try to avail a booking for us and get back to me in no time. Assuringly she smiled and said that my trip to Asia would be a very eventful one. Thanking her, I hung up on the phone and pulled out my travel gear. I was already roaring with anticipation. Well…Asia…here I come!!
