There has been a boom in the tourism sector in Indonesia. The first half of 2008 has seen a rise in the number of foreigner visitors in the country. Statistics show, that the number of foreigner visitors to Indonesia has increased by almost 12% compared to the first half of last year.

In last few years, Indonesia tourism department suffered due to a number of natural calamities like tsunamis and earthquakes. Bird flu outbreak and a number of terrorist attacks had also hampered the tourism industry of Indonesia.

But this year, tourists have been traveling to Indonesia in great numbers. Only in June, this country of Asia has been visited by around 529,100 visitors, which is about 6% more than the number of tourists visiting in last June.

The government’s decision of extending the list of counties, which can receive visas-on-arrival, has proved to be right, as the number of foreign visitors have increased drastically.
